Privacy Policy
Last updated: 10 August 2026
KhatriSetu (“we”, “our”, “the platform”) is a community seva initiative to help Sindhi Khatri families preserve identity and build a shared digital record. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using KhatriSetu, you agree to this policy.
1. Who this policy covers
This policy applies to everyone who visits, signs in to, or submits information through KhatriSetu — including heads of household, family members, and visitors browsing public community pages.
If you add another person’s details (for example a family member), you confirm that you are authorised to share that information and that it is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
2. Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly and limited technical data needed to run the service securely.
- Account details — email address or mobile number used to sign in, and basic profile fields you choose to save.
- Family & census data — names, relationships, dates, places, gotra/nukh or community fields, and other household information you enter.
- Visibility preferences — what you choose to show or hide in community directories.
- Usage & device data — approximate logs such as sign-in time, browser type, and security-related events (not used for advertising).
- Support messages — if you contact us for help or corrections.
3. How we use information
We use your information only for community-record purposes and to operate KhatriSetu safely.
- Create and maintain your family census record and connected household tree.
- Prevent duplicate families and help members claim or join the correct record.
- Show directory information according to the visibility settings you (or your household) choose.
- Secure accounts, detect abuse, and improve reliability of the platform.
- Send essential service notices related to your account or family record (not marketing spam).
4. Visibility and the community directory
Privacy comes first. Contact details and sensitive personal fields are not public by default.
Community directory views may show limited family or member information based on the visibility controls available in your profile and family settings. You can change those controls where the product allows.
Public heritage and about pages do not display your private census fields.
5. Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it for advertising.
We may share limited data only when necessary:
- With service providers who host or operate infrastructure under confidentiality obligations (for example database hosting).
- With other authenticated family members who already belong to the same household record, as needed for a shared family tree.
- When required by law, regulation, or a valid legal process in India.
- To protect the safety, integrity, or rights of users and the community platform.
6. Data security
We use industry-standard safeguards such as encrypted transport (HTTPS), access controls, and authenticated sessions.
No online service can guarantee perfect security. Please keep your sign-in details private and tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
7. Retention
We keep family and account records for as long as your account remains active and the community record is needed for the purpose of this seva.
If you request deletion of your account or specific personal data, we will process the request where feasible, subject to legal retention needs and the rights of other members linked to the same household record.
8. Your rights and choices
Depending on applicable law and product features, you may be able to:
- Access and update your profile and family information while signed in.
- Adjust visibility settings for what the community can see.
- Request correction of inaccurate records.
- Request account closure or deletion of personal data you control.
9. Children
KhatriSetu is intended for adults creating or managing family records. Information about minors should only be entered by a parent, guardian, or authorised head of household, and only as needed for the family census.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the platform evolves. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
